Which metro stations are closed?

Let us inform that 16 stations of Delhi Metro including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO and Khan Market were closed on Thursday morning due to security reasons till further orders. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) gave this information. This step has been taken amid increasing crowd in the ongoing demonstration of Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar.

However, line changing facility will be available for passengers at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat metro stations. DMRC said in a post on social media platform

Metro stations were closed on Wednesday also

Due to security reasons, 16 stations of Delhi Metro remained closed for about eight hours on Wednesday, due to which thousands of office goers, students and other passengers got stuck. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had closed 16 stations in the morning and in the afternoon Jhandewalan was also included in this list. The exit gates of the stations were opened in the evening.

What did the opposition say?

Opposition leaders criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, saying that the BJP should have talked to the students instead of closing the metro stations. Passengers said that trains continued to run on many routes, but did not stop at designated stations, due to which they had to go beyond their destination and then return by road.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that closing the metro station is wrong and efforts to stop students and protesters will only strengthen the movement. The former Chief Minister of Delhi said, even if you close all the metro stations, they will still walk. These are youth. It would be good for the government to listen to these young protesters.

He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government of trying to suppress the movement instead of meeting the demands of the students. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also criticized the government’s way of handling the situation and said that instead of closing the exits of the metro station, the government should have talked to the students.
