ECB will remove McCullum from Test coaching
Due to continuous failure in Test format, the news of Brendon McCullum’s journey as head coach of England has come to an end. This big claim has been made in an Australian media report. Australia’s famous ‘7 Cricket’ reporter Tom Morris revealed this in one of his social media posts. According to him, the ECB has decided to remove McCullum and its formal announcement can be made only on Sunday, July 12.
McCullum took over the responsibility of England Test head coach in June 2022. Then in January 2025, he also became the coach of the team in ODI and T20 formats. However, this action on him is expected to take place only in the Test format and he can remain the coach in the limited overs format. Especially after defeating T20 World Champion Team India 4-0 in the series, their claim in this format is strong but their journey in Test is now going to end.
The journey of ‘Baseball’ will end
The decision to remove McCullum is coming after the recent defeat in the home Test series against New Zealand. Despite leading 1-0 in this series, England lost it 1-2. Just before this, the English team had again failed in the Ashes during the Australia tour. Not only this, apart from the performance on the field, the team and the coach were also in controversies due to issues like discipline of the players off the field.
With McCullum’s removal, the ‘baseball’ style in Test cricket will also come to an end. Ben Stokes, who started baseball with McCullum, retired from international cricket a few days ago. He also ended his career with the defeat against New Zealand. Now McCullum will also step away from the coaching of this format, which will be the ‘end’ of ‘baseball’ named after him.
