Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed the centenary contact program of RSS in Thrissur, Kerala. During this, he said that the main objective of the Sangh is not to gain political power, but to organize and empower the society for the revival of the country. He said that RSS was not established to oppose any particular community or to grab power or to gain popularity.
Mohan Bhagwat said that Sangh’s founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar believed that due to mutual divisions and weaknesses within the society, India became a victim of repeated foreign invasions and slavery. He said that the permanent solution to these challenges lies in creating an organized, disciplined and aware society. Bhagwat said that the aim of RSS is to unite the society amidst diversity and strengthen national unity. He said that India’s identity based on civilization, culture and shared values is the foundation of national life.
The ideology of Hindutva “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”
Talking about the concept of Hindutva, the RSS chief clarified that it does not mean opposing any particular religion. He explained that the ideology of Hindutva is based on the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the whole world is one family), which means that all people can live together despite their differences. He emphasized that the main mission of the Sangh is to prepare people who are honest, selfless, disciplined and dedicated to social service. According to Bhagwat, RSS volunteers are currently contributing to more than 1,30,000 service works across the country.
Sangh does not take credit for the achievements of its volunteers
He said that the Sangh does not take credit for the achievements of its volunteers. Citing the example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he explained that volunteers working in different fields contribute based on their capabilities and responsibilities, and the RSS makes no attempt to take credit for their achievements.
India’s progress does not depend only on governments
Bhagwat stressed that India’s progress depends not only on governments, but also on the active participation of the society and the character of the citizens. He said that once the society becomes organized and aware, solutions to many problems of the country will emerge automatically. Answering questions related to the Christian community, he said that Christians have been an important part of the Indian society for a long time and have been safe in India. He said that RSS neither indulges in violence nor supports violence.
A person changes religion based on his personal belief
On the issue of religious conversion, Bhagwat said that if a person changes religion on the basis of his personal faith, then RSS has no objection to it. However, he said that conversions done through greed, pressure, coercion or by demeaning other religions and traditions are a matter of concern. Appealing to all parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through legal means, he stressed that people should not take the law into their own hands and avoid violence and confrontation.
