Whenever there is talk of popular mythological shows on TV, the name of director and producer BR Chopra’s show ‘Mahabharat’ definitely comes up. Even after three and a half decades, this show holds a special place in people’s hearts. This show started on Doordarshan on 2 October 1988 and ran till 24 June 1990. Meanwhile, a total of 94 episodes were telecasted. This show gave recognition to many actors everywhere. There was also an actor in this show, who became a part of it after being selected in the audition of 23 thousand people.
That actor is none other than Firoz Khan. They ‘Mahabharata‘ Played the character of Arjun. He became so famous through this character that later he changed his screen name to Arjun. People know him less by his real name and more by the name Arjun. Let us know how he became a part of this show.
Jackie Shroff was offered the role
Actually, the role of Arjun was first offered to Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff. However, due to some reason he could not do this role. He had refused to do this show. Firoz was selected after Jackie refused. However, his selection was not so easy. Firoz Khan himself had told in an interview that BR Chopra had auditioned 23 thousand people for this role.
Firoz Khan had given the audition. After giving the audition, he did not get any response from BR Chopra regarding the selection. In such a situation, after a week he himself reached BR Chopra’s office. When he reached there, he was asked to wear a mustache and wear a costume. After that he comes to know that he has been selected and he is going to play the role of Arjun in this show.

Why was the screen name Arjun?
He becomes a part of this show and becomes famous everywhere through this character. After this show, his mother also started calling him by the name of Arjun. Whereas when he used to call a director and tell that I am Firoz Khan, the director would not recognize him and others would mistake him for Firoz Khan. In such a situation, on the request of BR Chopra, he changed his screen name to Arjun.
