Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East region, talks are going on between Iran and America regarding a peace agreement. But meanwhile there is internal tension in Iran also. Fox News, citing an Iranian media report, claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reportedly submitted his resignation to the office of the Supreme Leader. However, the President’s Office has termed the resignation claim as baseless.
According to the report, which cited an unnamed source at Iran International, Pejeshkian said in his letter that his administration has been excluded from major decision-making processes in Iran, while radical factions within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have taken control of key matters.
Claim of request to step down with immediate effect
The newspaper report further claims that Pezeshkian wrote that under such circumstances he is unable to govern effectively or fulfill his legal responsibilities, and has therefore requested to step down from the presidency immediately. Iran International also said that it is not clear whether the office of Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei will accept this resignation or not.
Do not take baseless things seriously: President’s Office
However, an official of Iran’s Presidential Office rejected these reports related to the resignation. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabai, Deputy Head of Communications and Information Dissemination at the Presidential Office, said, “The baseless and controversial statements made by a fame-hungry young man about the President’s positions should not be taken seriously. The childish behavior of some misguided elements should not create a false narrative that young people do not have the ability to rule the country. Iran is a country rich with intelligent young people who have the opportunity of excellent management.” “Could not be found.”
Rejecting reports of his resignation, he further said, “Spreading rumors on behalf of a discredited foreign network is an extension of previous ridiculous media tactics. They have put forward their own fabrications instead of reality. President Pezeshkian will not back down from serving the people, just as the Iranian nation will not back down from the path of solidarity and resistance.” He further said that such people will take with them to their grave their desire to break the unity of Iran.”
We are close to a very good agreement: President Trump
On the other hand, talks are going on regarding the peace agreement. US President Donald Trump said a day ago that America and Iran have come close to a very good agreement but if Washington does not get what it wants then it will end the matter in some other way.
Trump said these things during an interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, which was shown on Fox News on Saturday night. The President said, “We are close to a very good agreement. If you hurry you will not get a better agreement and slowly but surely we are getting what we want. If we do not get what we want, we will try to finish it some other way.”
