
As a precaution before the NEET UG Re Examination, messaging platform Telegram was temporarily blocked across India till June 22 by the government. After NEET paper, Telegram is back on Google Play Store. Following the request of NTA, the Center had ordered to temporarily block Telegram from June 16, 2026 to June 22, 2026. NEET re-examination has been conducted successfully and no report of paper leak has come to light till now. The app is back but its message edit feature will not work at the moment because it was also temporarily banned.
Reacting to the move, Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov had criticized the Indian government’s decision to suspend the platform for a week.
What was the matter?
After allegations of leaking of NEET 2026 question paper and other related content, the government telegram The app was banned for some time. In a report by news agency PTI, it was said that the government had said that Telegram had failed to stop fake NEET papers, misleading information and fraudulent activities, which has affected the process of NEET paper.
This feature of Telegram is closed till 30th June
Before the block, officials had reportedly met with Telegram representatives on June 3 and raised concerns. After this, Telegram and its related web services were blocked. Not only this, the government had also directed Telegram to shut down its message-editing feature by June 30. This means that even though the app has returned to the Google Play Store, this feature will still remain closed till the 30th.
