iran
Iran was once one of Telegram’s biggest markets, where millions of users used the service. According to a NYT report, authorities permanently blocked the app following anti-government protests in 2018, alleging that the app was helping protesters organize and spread protest messages.
China
According to Business Standard, China has blocked Telegram since 2015 under a massive internet censorship system called the Great Firewall. Chinese officials have long viewed Telegram with suspicion because it is popular among activists, lawyers and political organizers. The app came into even greater controversy during the 2019 Hong Kong protests, when protesters used it extensively to organize rallies and share updates.
Brazil
Brazil has never permanently banned Telegram, but it has suspended the platform several times. According to reports, the country’s courts have accused Telegram of misinformation, extremist content and non-compliance with orders related to criminal investigation.
There is a ban in these countries also
Thailand blocked Telegram in 2020 after it was used by pro-democracy protesters. Cuba banned its use during anti-government protests in 2021. In Pakistan too, due to concerns related to cyber security and misinformation, this app is banned and restricted.
