Team India’s all-rounder retired amid IPL, hence suddenly took a big decision

A big news has come out during IPL 2026. All-rounder Vijay Shankar has suddenly announced his retirement. This right-handed batsman told on social media that he will no longer play in IPL and Indian domestic cricket. He has taken this decision to advance his career. Vijay Shankar has played domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu, while in the IPL he has represented Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. During the announcement of his retirement, Vijay Shankar thanked every person who helped him become a good cricketer.

Vijay Shankar Announcing his retirement, he wrote, ‘Cricket is my life, I started playing at the age of 10 and after 25 years I have played at every level. Playing for the national team will always be one of my proudest and happiest moments. I have decided to retire from domestic cricket and IPL, so that I can play more cricket. It wouldn’t be enough to thank you for allowing me to do what I love most. I will always be grateful.

Vijay Shankar thanked BCCI and the Indian cricket team during his retirement. He wrote, ‘bowling the last over in India’s 500th ODI in Nagpur and taking the first wicket with the first ball in the 2019 World Cup, these are the moments I will always cherish. Special thanks to my IPL teams GT, SRH, CSK and DC. TNCA’s U13, U15, U17, U19, U22, U25 and finally the senior team, I spent most of my life with them. Thanks to everyone who supported me at every step. Vijay Shankar also thanked all his coaches, support staff, physio, trainers, groundsmen, media and friends.

Vijay Shankar scored 223 runs for India in 12 ODIs at an average of 31.8. He scored 101 runs in 9 T20 matches at an average of more than 25. In first class cricket, Vijay Shankar scored 4253 runs with the help of 13 centuries. In List A, he scored 2790 runs with the help of 2 centuries. In T20, he scored 2583 runs with the help of 12 half-centuries.
