Indian mangoes, especially the mangoes of UP, are famous not only in different parts of the country but also in outside countries. According to the information given by the Ministry of Agriculture, India has exported 12.5 tonnes of premium Dussehri and Langra variety mangoes from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh to Dubai by sea route.
This is the first successful commercial shipment from the northern state through sea route, in which the transit period from harvest to market was increased to 25 days. The protocol for export by sea route was prepared jointly by ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (ICAR-CISH), Lucknow and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Promotion Authority (APEDA).
First successful commercial shipment by sea route
The ministry said in a statement that this is the first successful commercial consignment of Dussehri and Langra mangoes from Uttar Pradesh to Dubai by sea route. This shows that premium Indian mangoes can now be exported economically via sea route without compromising on quality. This success is expected to encourage exporters to send goods by sea (sea freight), which will increase the export of fresh mangoes from India to Gulf countries and other international markets.
There may be a rise in exports
The success of the Sea Route Protocol provides a sustainable way to increase farmers’ income through low-cost exports. In this way, it is expected to accelerate the commercialization of export of mangoes through sea route from Uttar Pradesh and other mango producing states. This will open up new opportunities in Gulf countries and other international markets, as well as increase earnings from exports, reduce logistics costs and improve the livelihood of the producers of Uttar Pradesh.
