Kanpur’s Tapeshwari Devi Temple: In Tretayuga, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu took his seventh incarnation in the form of Lord Shri Ram. Tretayug is also called Ramayana period. Today even in Kalyug, some places of Tretayug are present, which tell the story of the mythological importance of Tretayug. The temple of Tapeshwari Devi is included in these holy places. This temple is located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This place is mentioned in Uttar Kanda of Ramayana written by Maharishi Valmiki.

In the Uttara Kanda of Ramayana, this place is deeply related to the exile period of Mother Sita and her stay in Bithoor. According to Ramayana, it was at this place that Mother Sita performed penance and it was here that the Mundan Sanskar of her sons Luv-Kush was performed. In such a situation, let us know in detail about Tapeshwari Devi Temple.

Mother Sita did penance

It is told in Ramayana that after Shri Ram’s sacrifice and leaving Ayodhya, when Mother Sita was spending her time in exile, she did penance at this place. Mother did this penance with the aim of regaining the faith of Lord Shri Ram. Along with Mother Sita, goddesses named Kamla, Vimala and Saraswati also performed penance at this place. Mother Sita is considered to be the form of Goddess Lakshmi.

The three goddesses could not bear the grief of Mother Sita and they did penance to stop this injustice from happening to them. Since then this place came to be known as Tapeshwari. Even today there are four Pindis here and during Navratri there is a crowd of devotees here. People perform havan and worship here. Also, when the vow is fulfilled, bells are offered.

Luv-Kush were tonsured

At this very place, Mother Sita had performed the Mundan Sanskar and circumcision of her two sons Luv and Kush. Since then this place became very popular for both these rituals. People come here from far and wide to perform the Mundan Sanskar and ear piercing ceremony of their children. Newly married couples also come here to see and worship the goddess. It is believed that having darshan and worship here makes married life very pleasant.
