Iran has rejected speculations about talks with America, which were saying that its delegation’s visit to Qatar was related to any discussion with American officials. According to Iran’s news agency, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said in a press briefing, “We do not have any meeting for talks at any level with the American side in the coming days.” He further said, the visit of US representatives to Qatar has no connection with the visit of the Iranian delegation.
He said the visit of the Iranian delegation is to take further action on the implementation of the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), including Article 11. Ismail Baghai also emphasized that negotiations on a comprehensive agreement have not yet started.
No talks yet for final agreement
He said, we have not yet reached the stage of negotiations for a final agreement. Referring to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Baghai said, according to its Article 13, the commencement of negotiations for a final agreement depends on the commencement of implementation of Articles 1, 4, 5, 10 and 11 and the continuation of their implementation. The paragraphs of the MoU outlined by Baghai outline key confidence-building measures that need to be implemented before formal negotiations can begin on a final agreement.
Work on implementing five provisions begins
Under Article 11, the United States must make Iran’s frozen funds and assets fully available for use under mutually agreed procedures and provide the necessary licenses and approvals to facilitate access. According to Article 13 of the 14-point MoU, negotiations on a final agreement can begin only when the implementation of the five provisions mentioned above begins and continues. This means both sides will have to show progress on agreed initial measures before moving on to broader talks, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Claims to go to Doha for talks with Iran
Meanwhile, according to the White House, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s senior advisor Jared Kushner will visit Doha today (Tuesday) for talks with Iran. Despite the tension following the recent firing incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, diplomatic talks are continuing between the two sides.
Appeal for compromise with Washington
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt confirmed this development in an interview and said that this meeting is being held at the request of Iran. Leavitt said Trump wants to keep the peace process going and urged Iran to reach a deal with Washington as technical talks continue following the signing of a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end hostilities in the Middle East. He said the president wants to see the peace process moving forward, and it would be best for the Iranians to reach a good deal with the United States.
This development has happened when today Trump claimed that Iran had requested a meeting with the US following the recent military tension between the two sides over the Strait of Hormuz. He announced that talks with Tehran will take place on Tuesday (today) in Doha, Qatar, while Iranian officials say there are no technical meetings scheduled this week.
Iran requested a meeting: Trump
In a post on ‘Truth Social’, Trump wrote, Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place in Doha on Tuesday. According to ‘Axios’, the meeting to be held in Qatar is to resolve their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz. There have been several attacks recently from both sides regarding control of maritime traffic through this strategic waterway.
A senior US official told ‘Axios’, we have decided to stop all types of military action (kinetic activity). The officer used military terminology for attacks and other offensive actions. Another official told Axios that both sides would withdraw for now and the ships would be able to move freely as technical talks continue.
Both US officials and a third source with knowledge of the matter confirmed the meeting to be held on Tuesday. However, according to Iran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said that there is no meeting of the technical working group scheduled this week under the 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Talks with Qatar continue normally
He said talks with Qatar were continuing as normal, especially regarding fulfillment of promises made by the other side, but could not confirm reports that technical working group talks were underway in Doha. Qatar has acted as one of the main mediators in talks between Tehran and Washington.
agree on date and place
Garibabadi further said that the first round of technical talks will take place only when the necessary conditions are met and the date and place are agreed upon. According to IRIB, he said, the first round of technical negotiations will take place within the framework of the designated working group, once the conditions are met and the date and place are agreed upon, and negotiations are ongoing through the mediator countries. Trump’s announcement and Tehran’s denial reflect the two sides’ different public stances on the status of talks, while Qatar continues to facilitate talks between them.
