Sunday Surya Dev Puja: What is the meaning of worshiping the Sun in the morning, afternoon and evening on Sunday?

Surya Dev Worship on Sunday: In Sanatan Dharma, Surya has the status of a deity. Among the Panch Devas, Surya is the only deity who is directly visible. Sunday has been dedicated to Sun God. On this day, special worship of Lord Surya is done. Also a fast is observed. Sun can be worshiped in the morning, afternoon and evening on Sunday. Religious belief is that by offering water to Sun God on Sunday, one gets fame, virtue, happiness, good fortune and prestige.

It is also believed that Lord Sun, pleased with the worship done on Sunday, blesses health and success. According to Rigveda, Arghya should be offered to the Sun within 1 hour of sunrise, because the Sun God cools down during this time. At this time, the rays of the sun falling on the body provide relief from diseases. Along with this, success in work, increase in self-confidence and blessings of royal grace are received.

Meaning and benefits of Surya Puja at different times

Worshiping Sun God on Sunday morning increases physical energy, mental peace and positivity. It is advisable to chant mantras while worshiping Sun on Sunday afternoon. Chanting ‘Om Suryay Namah’ or other mantras in the afternoon increases spiritual purification and inner radiance. Surya puja in the afternoon is considered very beneficial for mental clarity. The setting sun (i.e. ‘Pratyusha’) is worshiped to express gratitude and remove the negativity of the day.

Religious significance of Surya Puja

According to astrology, Sun God is considered the king of all other planets. Since ancient times, Sun God is being worshiped in the morning. Not only humans but even gods used to start their daily routine only after worshiping the Sun. Lord Shri Ram also offered water to the Sun and worshiped him before going to Lanka. In Bhavishya Purana, Shri Krishna has explained the importance of Sun worship to his son. The leprosy of Shri Krishna’s son Samb was cured only by worshiping the Sun.
