Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has once again launched a scathing attack on the opposition. Speaking in the Assembly, he said, ‘When I gave a speech in the Assembly that day, many people got irritated. Is it an insult to me to say that Rs 7,000 crore was wasted in the Missing Link project? This is an insult to Maharashtra. When I used the word ‘hired pony’, many people got irritated. I said this in Hindi. The mimicry artists were hit harder than those for whom they were asked. We do not face any political threat from them. If he had not been in politics, the mimicry artist would have been sitting at home.
Fadnavis said that ‘Maharashtra is not number-1 in terms of crime, but is at seventh place. The population of Goa is only 15 lakhs, so crime there cannot be compared. In the year 2012, the rate of conviction in crimes was 9.4 percent, which has now increased to 52 percent. Our target is to take it to 70 percent. Earlier, charge sheets in sexual crimes were not filed for two years. Now chargesheet is being filed within 15 days. He said that the verdict in the Narsapur case came within 59 days. The state government and the judiciary should work together and the court is fully cooperating.
Speaking on the issue of suicide and poisonous liquor, he said, ‘When there are posts related to suicide on social media, we reach out to the person concerned, explain to him at the psychological level and if necessary, get him treated by a psychiatrist. In the last one and a half year, we have saved the lives of many people. 22 people died due to poisonous liquor in Pune. All the accused have been arrested and 26 officers have been suspended. A large number of flying squads have been prepared.
Drugs a big challenge
Regarding drugs, Fadnavis said that ‘Drugs are a big challenge. International smuggler Salim Dola has been arrested. Drugs worth Rs 256 crore have been seized. A campaign is being run to create awareness among children. The responsibility of 20 divisions of the state has been fixed. The central government and all the state governments are working together. If the police is found responsible in any case, it will be dismissed.
Investment on modernization of police department
Devendra Fadnavis further said that ‘large scale investment is being made in the modernization of the police department. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being increased in policing, which will greatly benefit the police. 61 new police stations have been established in the state. Mumbai has the largest police force in the country. In such a situation, all the police lands in Mumbai were surveyed and a decision has been taken to build 40 thousand houses for Mumbai Police at those places. He said that action is also being taken against a special chemical used in narcotics. AI was used in the Narsapur case, which made the decision possible in the shortest time.
Ajit Pawar gave update on plane crash
Speaking on the Ajit Pawar plane crash case, Fadnavis said that ‘in the case related to Ajit Pawar, all investigations were conducted in relation to pilot Sumit Kapoor, but nothing suspicious was found. However, the report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is yet to come. All aspects including the black box have been investigated. Today I also talked to the Central Government about when the complete report will come. It is expected that this report will come before January. CBI and CID are also waiting for this report. There is a possibility that this report will come before the death anniversary of Ajit Pawar. Based on this report, action will be taken against someone. Emotions are important, but law does not work on the basis of emotions. Appropriate action will be taken.
What did the CM say on loan waiver?
On loan waiver of farmers, CM Fadnavis said, ‘We have won all the elections, hence there was no political need for loan waiver till 2029. Despite this, we are going to waive off the loans of farmers. Maharashtra is the only state in the country to do so. Loan waiver was also given in 2017 and 2020 and will be done again now. Due to continuous loan waiver, many farmers are not repaying the loans, due to which banks are in trouble. It is necessary to provide relief to farmers, but banks will also have to be kept safe. The biggest loan waiver scheme till date is being introduced. Many people had demanded reducing the conditions, which are being reduced. The state government has taken such a decision for the first time, it has never happened before.
Electricity bill did not increase due to smart meter
On electricity and smart meters, CM said that it is mandatory to install smart meters across the country. Rebate has also been given to smart meter consumers. In summer the demand for electricity increased from 28 thousand MW to 32 thousand MW. This year the summer season lasted for three months. The rain came late by a month. He said that if the unit consumption exceeds the prescribed limit, there is an increase of Rs 5 per unit. Consumption beyond 500 units increases by an additional Rs 2. This is why the electricity bill has increased this time, it has nothing to do with the smart meter. Even where there are no smart meters, electricity bills have increased.
