Sarguja News: A very emotional picture has emerged from Mainpat area of Surguja district of Chhattisgarh which exposes the government arrangements and claims. Here, the daughter-in-law, belonging to a poor family, had to carry her 90-year-old mother-in-law on her back to the bank, about 9 kilometers away, to withdraw her old age pension. After the video and pictures of this conflict went viral on social media, now serious questions are being raised on the administration and banking system.
This entire matter is of Kunia Gram Panchayat of Mainpat development block. Sukhmuniya Bai’s mother-in-law, who lives here, is completely unable to walk. The road from the village to the bank is very rocky, surrounded by forests and full of drains, where no vehicle is available. Amidst this scorching heat, Sukhmuniya carried her elderly mother-in-law on her back through hilly and unpaved roads and reached the Central Bank in Narmadapur.
Received only Rs 1500 after 3 months
Family members told that earlier the pension amount was available through Bank Mitra in the village itself, but now visiting the bank has been made mandatory. On reaching the bank, the elderly woman was given only Rs 1500 as three months’ pending pension, whereas a total of Rs 2000 was deposited in her account for four months. In the era of Digital India, the elderly have to struggle for basic facilities like this, due to which there is a lot of anger among the local villagers. People have demanded that arrangements for payment for the elderly and disabled should be made at the village level itself.
Bank manager’s claim – facility is available at home
On this matter, Narmadapur Central Bank Manager Mirza Altaf Baig says that eight bank friends are working to give pension by going door-to-door in Mainpat area. He claimed that if the family had informed the bank in this regard earlier, the bank mitra would have been sent directly to the beneficiary’s home.
