
The 5th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Anti-Terrorism between India and Tajikistan was held in Dushanbe on 24 June. In this, both the countries had a detailed discussion on the threats posed by terrorist organizations at the global and regional level. Measures to deal with violent extremism and radicalization were discussed.
In the meeting of the Joint Working Group on Anti-Terrorism, it was agreed to increase cooperation to stop terrorism financing. Along with this, there was discussion on preventing misuse of technology for terrorist activities and increasing threats through cyber means. Views were also shared regarding drug trafficking and global movement of terrorists.
Condemnation of Pahalgam terrorist attack and Delhi attack
In the meeting, both countries strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. The terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025 and the terrorist attack near the Red Fort in Delhi on 10 November 2025 were also strongly condemned jointly. In this meeting, a call was made for concrete and coordinated action against the terrorists and terrorist organizations listed in the 1267 Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Commitment to increase cooperation on multilateral platforms
Along with this, it was agreed on information sharing, capacity building and exchange of best practices to strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation. Commitment to increase cooperation in multilateral forums like United Nations, SCO-RATS and EAG was reiterated. The next meeting of the Joint Working Group on Anti-Terrorism will be held in India on a mutually agreed date.
The 5th meeting of the India-Tajikistan Joint Working Group was co-chaired by Dr. Vinod Bahade, Joint Secretary (Counter-Terrorism), Ministry of External Affairs of India and Sherali Jonon, Head of the Department of Asia-Pacific Countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan. Representatives of concerned departments and agencies from both sides also participated in the meeting. Both sides discussed the threats posed by terrorist groups around the world and in their respective regions.
