Strict message from Supreme Court from Delhi-UP to Gurugram, carelessness will no longer be tolerated! Responsible officers will also be held accountable

July 9, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed strong displeasure over the rapidly increasing illegal construction in Delhi and incidents of fire due to ignorance of safety rules. The Supreme Court said that it expected that the responsible officers would take action themselves, but this did not happen. Now the court will give such orders which will affect many people.

The Supreme Court said that now personal responsibility of negligent officers will be fixed. Now everything will be clearly written in the order. The court also mentioned the incidents like fire in Malviya Nagar, fire incident in Lucknow and building collapse in Saket and said that such cases cannot be taken lightly. The Supreme Court has ordered inspection of Saket, Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar areas.

Also ordered to form a team for this. In which two senior professors of IIT Delhi, two draftsmen and MCD officials will be included. This team will check the condition of buildings and compliance with rules in these areas. If any deficiency is found then action will be taken to ensure. The Supreme Court also directed the officers to appear in person on August 4, the next date of hearing.

Supreme Court summoned the officials

The Supreme Court took cognizance of a newspaper report on Gurugram, in which it has been said that 93 percent of the buildings in Gurugram do not have necessary fire safety arrangements. On this, the Supreme Court has ordered the Vice Chairman of Gurugram Development Authority to appear in the court in the next hearing. Apart from this, the court has also summoned the Commissioner of Lucknow Municipal Corporation.

Accountability of those responsible will be fixed

The Supreme Court said that only builders etc. are being arrested and not the officers who are in-charge of the areas where widespread violations have taken place. Now we will issue orders and this will cause trouble to many people. We will put personal responsibility on the officials and present our views in writing.
