Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai is once again in the news these days. According to sources, there is news that he is going to form a new party. When he was asked about this at the airport yesterday before leaving for Delhi, he said that he will tell everything in two days. Annamalai is in Delhi today and is meeting top BJP leaders.

In April last year, BJP had removed him from the post of state president and appointed Nagendran as the new state president in his place. Since then he is on the path of ‘Ekla Chalo’. Annamalai joined BJP in 2020. He took membership of the party on 25 August. P Muralidhar Rao and then Tamil Nadu BJP president L. He joined BJP in the presence of Murugan. Annamalai, an IPS officer of 2011 batch (Karnataka cadre), resigned from the post in 2019 and after that he joined politics. Everyone was happy with his strict policing attitude. For this reason he came to be called ‘Singham’. He did excellent work while working in Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Bengaluru South in Karnataka.
Due to this work, he also got tremendous recognition. After about eight years of service, he thought of entering politics. For this he chose Bharatiya Janata Party. He also did tremendous work for the party at the grassroots level. The result was that the party handed over the command of the state president to him in the year 2021. He held this post from July 2021 to April 2025.

Be in discussion but could not win even a single election
Even after being in the news a lot. Annamalai has not won any election yet. He contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Aravakurichi seat and lost. After this, in 2024 he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Coimbatore, but he had to face defeat there too. After losing two consecutive elections, the political career of any leader usually ends. But his popularity has not diminished. Despite not winning a single seat, he remains a popular and influential face in Tamil Nadu politics.
He did not contest the assembly elections this year i.e. 2026. However, it is also said that he was not given a ticket from the seat he wanted to contest from (Coimbatore East). For this reason he did not contest the elections. However, he said that the decision not to contest the elections was his own and he wanted to focus on the election campaign. According to sources, BJP had also offered him a Rajya Sabha seat, but he refused. After this the question started arising whether BJP is not giving importance to Annamalai?
Vijay’s victory surprised Annamalai!
After this, it was discussed that Annamalai could form a new party. However, this entire incident has come to light a few days after a major political change in the recently held assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay’s party TVK created history in its very first election. By winning 108 out of 234 seats, it ended the decades-old dominance of DMK-AIDMK. This result not only surprised the opposition but also curtailed the political journey for Annamalai.
