There is panic in TMC after the defeat in West Bengal Assembly elections. Eight councilors including the chairman of Bhadreshwar Municipality of Hooghly district have resigned. Chairman Praloy Chakraborty claims that he resigned out of respect for public opinion. He also took responsibility for the defeat of the Trinamool candidate in the assembly elections.
Trinamool A source said that after the political changes, there was difficulty in getting donations. In such a situation the councilors no longer want to work. A group of BJP again taunted and said that the councilors have resigned out of fear of their names being implicated in allegations of corruption in recruitment.
This is the first time after the results of assembly elections that so many people have resigned from any municipality of Hooghly district. There are 22 wards in Bhadreshwar Municipality under Chandannagar Assembly. In the last municipal corporation elections, Trinamool had won 20. One seat was won by BJP and the other seat was won by an independent candidate. Later, both joined Trinamool.
Uproar after defeat in Hooghly
In the assembly elections, Trinamool was trailing in about 14 wards in this unopposed municipality. Party candidate Indranil Sen had lost in Chandannagar Assembly by a total of 13,000 votes. Praloy took moral responsibility for the party’s defeat. On Thursday, he submitted his resignation to the executive officer of Bhadreshwar Municipality.
Praloy claimed that he later learned that some more people had resigned. However, there is news that due to the resignation of eight Trinamool councilors of Bhadreshwar Municipality, there will be no difficulty in running the Municipal Corporation Board.
According to Trinamool sources, the board will be led by Vice Chairman Firoz Khan. After resigning, Praloy said, “I resigned due to personal reasons. For some days, I felt that I work when people support me. Now, those who are supported by people should be allowed to work.”
Displeasure of Trinamool leaders came out openly
However, he clarified that Trinamool did not give him any instructions in this regard. Neither BJP nor BJP’s Chandannagar MLA Dipanjan Guha ever said anything. In his words, “No one has created an atmosphere of fear here. This will not happen in future also.”
