DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son-in-law and Populous Empowerment Network (PEN) chairman V. Sabarisan has sent a legal notice to two TVK ministers Aadhav Arjun and CTR Nirmalkumar. He has alleged that the ministers have made baseless and defamatory remarks against him.
According to the information, V. Sabarisan has issued legal notices to Aadhav Arjun and CTR Nirmal Kumar for their statements given in separate press conferences on June 25. He has demanded both the ministers to withdraw their statements within 15 days and apologize publicly. Along with this, he has warned that if this is not done, legal action will be initiated.
The allegations in the notice were said to be baseless
According to the two notices sent on Saturday, both the ministers had made extremely false, fabricated, malicious and defamatory statements against Sabrisan. Also, it has been said in the notices that Sabrisan was targeted only because he is Stalin’s son-in-law.
Notice sent to ministers Aadhav Arjun and Nirmal Kumar
In the notice sent to Aadhav Arjun, it has been said that he had made allegations related to corruption during a conversation with the media. According to the report, the notice claimed that Arjun had alleged that DMK ministers had collected funds through corruption in all 36 departments of the previous state government and had transferred funds from 16 departments each to Udhayanidhi Stalin and Sabarisan.
In a separate notice sent to minister Nirmal Kumar there, Sabarisan objected to comments that he had benefited from the increase in electricity tariffs implemented during the previous DMK government. The notice alleges that Kumar, while addressing the media, claimed that the revenue, expenditure and borrowings of the electricity department had all increased during the DMK tenure. Kumar had said that ‘We will have to ask the ministers of previous governments who took advantage of the increase in electricity bill – the family, the son-in-law or the son’.
Ministers made serious allegations
According to the notice, the minister alleged irregularities in the power sector during the previous DMK government, adding that despite the tariff increase, neither the consumers nor the power department benefited, while a loan of Rs 87,000 crore was taken. The notice said that he (the minister) pointed to an obscure person and a son-in-law behind these deals, which (the notice) claimed was a reference to Sabrisan.
‘Targeted because he was son-in-law’
In both the notices, these statements have been described as completely false and baseless. The notice said that these statements were made deliberately with the intention of tarnishing Sabrisan’s image, character and reputation. In both the notices, it was said that Sabrisan was targeted only because he is the son-in-law of former Chief Minister Stalin. Section 356 (1) and (2) of BNS 2023, Information Technology Act 2000 and Civil Defamation Act have been cited in the notice.
demand for apology
The notice also said that these statements were widely broadcast on several regional television channels and social media platforms. Where they were reportedly viewed more than four lakh times. Sabrisan has demanded both the ministers to withdraw their statements, tender an unconditional apology publicly on the same TV channels and social media handles, remove all related videos and give a written assurance not to repeat such statements in future. If this is not done within 15 days, a warning will be taken of legal action.
