
Delhi government claims that it is carrying out development work on a large scale to improve the living standards of millions of citizens living in slums. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that through Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), works related to construction, repair, upgradation and public welfare of basic facilities are being done rapidly in various areas of the capital. The objective of these projects is to provide better civic amenities to the people living in slums and make their lives more safe, clean and convenient.
The Chief Minister said that all these works are being done from the budget of DUSIB. Apart from this, separate expenditure is being made on various development and construction works in slums through the general budget and other departments of Delhi Government. He said that through DUSIB, a total of 1,510 development and construction works have been approved in various slums of the capital in the years 2025-26 and 2026-27. Of these, Rs 379.80 crore has been approved for 1,253 works in 2025-26 and Rs 61.30 crore has been approved for 257 works so far in the current financial year 2026-27. In this way, development works are being accelerated at a total cost of Rs 441.10 crore in both the years.
What facilities will be available?
CM Rekha Gupta said that under these projects, construction and renovation of community toilets and public convenience complexes, upgradation of community buildings, improvement of drinking water and sewer system, development of streets and internal roads, repair of drains, strengthening of street lights and electrical system, construction of border walls and entry gates, rain water drainage, beautification of public places and development of other civic facilities are being done. The objective of these projects is to provide basic civic amenities necessary for a safe, clean and dignified life to the people living in slums.
Priority for development works in slums of these areas
The Chief Minister informed that priority is being given to development works in slums located in Narela, Timarpur, Adarsh Nagar, Jahangirpuri, Azadpur, Bawana, Rohini, Seemapuri, Trilokpuri, Shahdara, Karawal Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Dwarka, Najafgarh and other areas of the capital. He said that the objective of these development works is not only to create infrastructure but also to make the daily life of people living in slums more safe, clean and convenient. With this in mind, Atal canteens are being constructed in many assembly constituencies of the capital so that nutritious food can be made available to the needy citizens at affordable rates.
There will be equal access to basic facilities
Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government is committed to connecting the slum residents with the mainstream of development. The government is continuously working to ensure that every citizen of the capital, no matter which area he or she lives in, has equal access to basic amenities. He said that these projects running through DUSIB are a testimony to the government’s commitment towards social justice, inclusive development and citizen welfare. CM said that in the coming times also, work related to development of slums, cleanliness, security, community facilities and public welfare will be given more momentum, so that the development of Delhi can reach the last person of the society.
