Sonia Gandhi cornered the government on Gaza and Iran-America war, raised questions on foreign policy

June 27, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has made a scathing attack on the foreign policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has written an article on this issue in the Indian Express. He has alleged that if India was playing the role of mediator amid Iran-America tension, Pakistan would not have been questioned. Sonia Gandhi has cornered the government by writing an article. He said that we are sinking deeper into Israel’s strategic circle, while the world is moving away from it. In such circumstances, the Prime Minister’s visit to Israel, and that too a few days before Israel’s war against Iran and the assassination of its top political leaders, will go down in history as a surprising strategic decision.

He said that we have distanced ourselves from our old allies in Palestine, Iran and the entire Middle East. We have also distanced ourselves from global public opinion and we have also distanced ourselves from Pakistan – a country that has been harboring dangerous terrorists. He said that Pakistan has been given the opportunity to grab the role of mediator; Whereas due to our old friendly relations with all the parties, we had a natural right to this role. Sonia Gandhi said that by sacrificing our strategic interests and morality, we got nothing except the friendship of Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu, whereas Netanyahu is now being criticized all over the world including America.

Question on India’s silence on Gaza

Sonia Gandhi criticized the central government’s silence on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He said that India’s silence on Gaza is contrary to its moral and diplomatic heritage. The article appealed to India to adopt a clear stance in favor of international law and human rights. Sonia Gandhi said that India seems to be deviating from its historical foreign policy.

The article advocates maintaining India’s traditional support towards Palestine. Sonia Gandhi stressed the need for immediate ceasefire and humanitarian assistance in Gaza. The article said that India’s silence on Gaza could affect its leadership image at the international level. Sonia Gandhi wrote that India should openly raise its voice in favor of justice, peace and humanity.
