Climate and social activist Sonam Wangchuk will be discharged from Safdarjung Hospital and admitted to Medanta Hospital. Delhi High Court has ordered to shift him from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta. Only a verbal order has been given by the court regarding shifting to Medanta. Written order will come by evening.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing in the court on behalf of the Central Government, also agreed, but also said that Medanta should not be discharged without the consent of the doctors. Then the High Court directed that Wangchuk be shifted to Medanta Hospital.
Hearing on wife Gitanjali’s appeal
Hearing the appeal of Gitanjali Angmo, wife of activist Wangchuk, the court also ordered that all medical test reports be submitted to a panel of doctors in Medanta. The court has also directed the hospital to form a panel of doctors for his treatment.
Geetanjali challenged the order of the single judge in which her plea to discharge Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital and shift him to Medanta Hospital was rejected.
Investigation report, order to appear before doctors
Earlier on Monday, the Delhi High Court had ordered both the Central Government and Sonam’s wife to submit all the medical examination reports of Sonam Wangchuk and the doctors to be present in the court.
Advocate Kapil Sibal appeared in the court on behalf of Wangchuk, while SGI Tushar Mehta along with ASG Chetan Sharma appeared on behalf of the Center and Delhi Police. During the hearing, government and private doctors who treated Wangchuk in the hospital were also present in the court.
During this, Sibal told the court that whatever medical report was available with him, he had submitted it. Whereas Solicitor General Mehta said that the court can talk to the doctors. I have a suggestion – what is the situation now and what could be the situation if immediate attention is not given.
During the hearing, SG Mehta expressed apprehension and said that there are people around Wangchuk who want to take him out of the hospital without caring about his health. This is the only concern of the government.
What did the Safdarjung administration say?
Earlier yesterday, the Safdarjung Hospital administration had said that Wangchuk’s vital health parameters were stable, but his blood parameters needed to be closely monitored by doctors. The hospital also said that Wangchuk is being continuously treated medically and the team of experts is closely monitoring his health condition.
Wangchuk was forcibly taken from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday, the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike. He had started an indefinite fast on June 28 in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led movement against alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
