Climate activist and scientist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, there is news that Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh reached Medanta Hospital and met Wangchuk and inquired about Wangchuk’s health.
According to sources, both the ministers spoke to Sonam Wangchuk in the hospital and inquired about her condition. Wangchuk was brought to Medanta Hospital in an ambulance at around 7:30 pm on Tuesday evening under tight security. He has been admitted to ICU-8 of the hospital.
Tight security around the hospital
According to an official of Medanta Hospital, Wangchuk is being treated under the supervision of internal medicine specialist Dr. Sushila Kataria. Security has also been increased around the hospital and a large number of policemen have been deployed.
Team of doctors are monitoring
Delhi High Court on Tuesday (July 21) had ordered to shift Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The court said that a team of specialist doctors at Medanta will monitor his health condition. The order came on a petition filed by Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Angmo, in which she had sought treatment at a hospital of her choice.
The court held that shifting Wangchuk to a hospital of his choice was necessary to protect his fundamental rights under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution. The Central Government had also not expressed any objection to the shifting to Medanta.
Safdarjung Hospital informed about health condition
According to Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk was discharged from the hospital at 6:40 pm and was handed over to the medical team of Medanta in compliance with the court order. The hospital said that his vital health parameters were stable at the time of discharge, but the problem of deficiency of all types of blood cells in his body persisted. His serum potassium level was also 3.4 mEq/L.
Sonam Wangchuk’s fast continues
Sonam Wangchuk is on indefinite hunger strike since June 28. Tuesday was the 24th day of his fast. Meanwhile, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has intensified its protest against the central government regarding the NEET paper leak issue. The protesters are camping at Jantar Mantar and are continuously demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
