June 17, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The controversy has deepened regarding a social media post of Somnath Bharti. Advocate and BJP leader Sanket Gupta and Delhi Cantonment Board member Rajesh Goyal, while addressing a joint press conference today, said, we have filed a complaint against former Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti to the Delhi Police Commissioner, demanding registration of FIR, investigation of social media posts and legal action.

State spokesperson Shubhendu Shekhar Awasthi was also present in the press conference. Sanket Gupta has alleged in his complaint that Somnath Bharti shared a video on social media platform X, in which a woman has claimed the incident of rape and subsequent burning of a 9-year old girl in Delhi Cantt area. According to the complaint, this incident is an old incident of August 2021, but it was presented as if it was a present-day incident.

What allegations did BJP make?

Sanket Gupta said that this type of misleading information can create fear, confusion and dissatisfaction in the society. He alleged that an attempt has been made to mislead the public by linking old incidents with the present government and administration through social media. Along with this, Somnath Bharti has tweeted and written, “If such a gruesome incident has happened in Delhi despite the government of four engines, then whose responsibility is it?”

Spreading fear among the public will not be accepted

He said that Delhi Police is continuously working to maintain law and order and effective steps are being taken for the safety of women and children. Any attempt by any person to spread fear among the public through false facts or misleading material cannot be accepted.

Sanket Gupta and Rajesh Goyal have given a complaint to Delhi Police today, after which Delhi Police has assured to investigate this entire matter and take appropriate legal action.
