The name of the slowest running train of India is ‘Mettupalayam Ooty Passenger Train’. Despite running at a very slow speed, this train is very special for tourists. Actually, picturesque views of valleys, mountains, waterfalls, tunnels are visible from this train. For this reason, the slow running speed of this train makes the journey even more beautiful for the people. Along with enjoying the views comfortably, you can also capture photos and videos.

This train also holds historical importance and the views from it are also amazing. For this reason it has also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This train passes through 208 turns and 16 tunnels to reach its destination. During this time, seeing the lush green valleys will make your heart happy.

Toy Train Runs From Mettupalayam To Ooty

The journey is of so many hours

‘Mettupalayam Ooty Nilgiri Passenger Train’ which is also known as Ooty Toy Train. It comes under Southern Railway zone and its Salem division. Running from Mettupalayam (via Coonoor, Wellington) to Ooty Udagamandalam, this train covers a distance of 46 kilometers and takes approximately 5 hours. This train runs at a speed of 9 to 12 km per hour and if we calculate the average speed of a bicycle, it also remains the same.

How to travel in this train?

If you also want to travel in this train of Nilgiri Mountain Railway, then you will have to plan a trip to South India, especially Tamil Nadu. This train runs daily. Just keep in mind that you should book its ticket 2-3 months in advance. This train departs from Mettupalayam at 07:10 am and reaches Ooty (Udhagamandalam/Ooty Railway Station) at approximately 12:00 pm.
