On some bridge, on the roof of some school, somewhere in the village market… For the last few days, white flags with Arabic writing have suddenly started appearing in different areas of Bangladesh. At first glance it may seem like a normal religious symbol, but when these flags started appearing simultaneously in many districts, the concern of the government and security agencies increased. The question began to arise that what is the purpose behind these flags? Is this just a display of religious identity or is there a bigger conspiracy hidden behind it? This suspicion has created a situation of high alert in the entire country.

While white color is considered a symbol of peace, it has become a topic of discussion in Bangladesh. In fact, for the last few days, white colored flags have been seen in different areas of Bangladesh, on which something is written in Arabic language. According to Bangladeshi media reports, intelligence agencies in their report to the government have expressed apprehension that banned fundamentalist and extremist organizations are trying to organize themselves in a new way. The report says that the white flag can be used to influence the youth, incite religious sentiments and disturb law and order.

various types of activities taking place

Government’s Information Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rehman has also admitted that this matter is in the cognizance of the government and it is being investigated seriously. He says that no planning can be ruled out behind these flags. For this reason, continuous meetings are going on at the Police Headquarters and the Home Ministry. According to the report, in recent times such flags were installed on bridges, flyovers, educational institutions and rural markets in many districts including the capital Dhaka. Motorcycle rallies and processions were also taken out at some places.

social media account block

Police claim that the people active behind these activities are being identified and so far 24 accounts propagating on social media have been identified. Pictures of flags and videos of rallies were being shared through these accounts. These IDs have already been blocked. Police have also collected CCTV footage from many places. The footage shows that two or three youths wearing helmets or masks, who had come on motorcycles late at night or before dawn, quickly pulled the flags and left. They are also investigating his mobile location and possible contacts.

Investigation is being done

It has also been claimed in the intelligence report that some people are trying to influence the youth through social media. The investigating agencies suspect that this network is also getting financial help from within the country and abroad through cryptocurrency and hawala. However, these claims have not been independently confirmed yet. Bangladesh Police says that surveillance has been increased in sensitive areas, at present the answer to what is the real intention behind the white flags will be revealed only after the investigation is completed.
