Should voting rights be abolished? Owaisi angry at EC regarding voter list verification process

June 25, 2026 by Uma Shankar

AIMIM Party President and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has attacked the Election Commission. He alleged that the Election Commission had prepared the voter list of 2002 manually. If there was a spelling mistake at that time, how can they punish the voters now? The Commission should not do this.

Owaisi said, “For voters whose names were not in the 2002 draft list, a list of twelve documents was prepared. The NRC process was never done in Telangana, so that document is not valid. Permanent resident certificates are not issued here, there is no family register and Aadhaar is also not accepted. This removes four documents and only eight remain.”

Owaisi said that we asked the commission to include PAN card because it is valid for voting. Also, voting can be done through driving license or food security card issued by the state. But the Election Commission refused to accept it.

Request was made to the Election Commission

AIMIM Chief said that we also requested the Election Commission to correct the shortcomings. But no correct answer was given by him, on which consent could be expressed. Owaisi said that, in fact, in 2002, the voter list was prepared by hand by the Election Commission. If there was a spelling mistake then. If someone has 6 children then their name will not appear in the voter list. Which is the law that name will not appear in the voter list?

SIR work started in Telangana

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday launched a door-to-door data collection campaign under the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of the voter list in Telangana. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will distribute forms to collect data for a week. They will go to homes to give these forms. If a house is found closed, the form will be left at the door. The work of collecting properly filled forms will begin after a week.
