Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday declared Rekha Gupta as its candidate for the by-election of Bankipur assembly seat in Bihar. With this, the speculations about the Grand Alliance supporting Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishor came to an end. On Sunday, Jan Suraj Party had announced to make Prashant Kishore its candidate in Bankipur assembly by-election.
State RJD President Mangani Lal Mandal claimed that it was the “decision of the entire grand alliance” to field Rekha Gupta, who had contested the seat on the party ticket in last year’s assembly elections.
Mandal said, “Rekha Kumari alias Rekha Gupta had contested this seat in the November, 2025 elections, in which she got around 47,000 votes. Now, when this seat has become vacant after the resignation of BJP national president Nitin Naveen, we have decided to field her again.”
Called Rekha Gupta the candidate of Grand Alliance
RJD said in its Facebook post that RJD leader Rekha Gupta, who comes from the most backward class, has been declared the candidate of the Grand Alliance in the Bankipur assembly constituency by-election.
It was said in the post that BJP has cheated the people of Bankipur for 40 years. Despite being the seat of the capital Patna, there is a severe lack of basic public facilities here. The condition of this area is bad during the rainy season, whereas the current National President of BJP and former MLA from this area and former Urban Development Minister have been there. Nitin Naveen and his father have been MLAs from this seat for 10 times, but this time the people of the area will teach them a tough lesson. This time the public will get rid of the family based party.
It was said in the post that Rekha Gupta has also contested the 2025 assembly elections from Bankipur seat on RJD ticket. Seeing his continuous activism in the area, his ground hold and his harmony among the local workers, National President Lalu Prasad Yadav and Working President Tejashwi Yadav have once again expressed confidence in him. RJD Principal General Secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui Saheb and State President Mangani Lal Mandal announced the name of Rekha Gupta. On the strength of people’s love, trust and confidence, the victory of Grand Alliance candidate Rekha Gupta is certain.
Bankipur has been a stronghold of BJP
BJP has been winning Bankipur assembly for the last 45 years. From here, Nitin Naveen has been elected MLA five times and his father Naveen Kishore Sinha has been elected four times. In such a situation, it was believed that the opposition would unite and field a candidate against him, but the opposition seems to be disintegrating even before the by-elections.
RJD’s announcement shocks Congress
With the announcement of RJD fielding candidates, questions have again started being raised regarding the relationship between Congress and RJD. In every election, Congress has been accused of being the B team of RJD and both the parties contest elections in alliance, but on some seats both the parties face each other and there is friendly competition.
However, no statement has come from Congress regarding this yet. It is being said that Congress can support the candidature of Prashant Kishore. However, Rekha Gupta has an old relationship with Congress, because she was earlier in Congress.
