June 12, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has received a big blow from the Supreme Court. The court rejected Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh’s petition seeking to call additional witnesses in the defamation case filed against him. A bench headed by Justice Prashant Mishra said that both the lower court and the High Court had given due consideration to the arguments of the petitioner before giving the verdict.

during the hearing Majithia The lawyer appearing for the case argued that the Punjab and Haryana High Court upheld the decision of the trial court without giving independent arguments. He also said that Section 311 of CrPC was not interpreted correctly.

Demand to call additional witnesses in the petition

The lawyer had also demanded to include the subsequent statements of Sanjay Singh in the record, as he feared that these would not be considered later. At the same time, lawyer DS Sobti, appearing for Sanjay Singh, said that the relevant material is already a part of the court records.

In fact, Majithia had filed a petition in the High Court demanding that he be allowed to present some more evidence in the case and call additional witnesses. The High Court rejected his demand, after which he approached the Supreme Court.
