
A suspected drone or missile attack occurred on Monday (June 8) on a commercial cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman. There were at least 24 Indian sailors on board this ship. It is being told that after the attack, there was a massive explosion in the engine room of the ship, which caused a massive fire. During this, there was chaos among the crew. This incident has occurred amid growing security concerns in West Asia, where war has started again between Iran and Israel.
According to the information, this Palau-flagged cargo ship was about 15 nautical miles from the coast of Oman when it was attacked. The explosion was so strong that a big hole was created in the engine room of the ship. Due to which the ship started filling with water rapidly and its balance got disturbed. After the explosion a massive fire broke out in the engine room.

The crew made emergency calls.
The crew made emergency calls as the situation worsened. Forward Siemens Union of India (FSUI) has confirmed the attack. The union said that there were Indian sailors on the ship. According to sources, the ship’s lifeboat was also damaged in the attack. Due to this, there is difficulty in getting the sailors out. Relief and rescue work is still going on.
Fire broke out in a ship named MT Marivex
Opesh Kumar Sharma, Director, Shipping Division, Ministry of Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) said that information about fire in a ship named MT Marivex has been received at around 1:30 pm today. He said that according to initial information, a total of 24 Indian sailors (seafarers) were present on the ship. It is a matter of relief that according to the information received so far, all Indian sailors are safe.
Situation is being monitored
The Ministry is continuously monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of seafarers. In this matter, coordination is being done with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, Indian Navy and Defense Ministry. At present, the causes of the fire and the damage caused to the ship are being assessed. Officials say that as new information becomes available, it will be shared.
