War of words continues between US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni. On Saturday, Trump hit back at Maloney, accusing her of “making up” a story and portraying him in a negative light. In a post on Truth, Trump said Meloni asked him “repeatedly” for a photo during the G7 summit in France. He claimed that Meloni was adopting these methods because his performance in Italy was “bad”.
Trump wrote, “Despite his level of popularity, his performance in Italy is poor, perhaps because he refused the United States of America, a country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to preventing Iran from acquiring or developing nuclear weapons (but so did NATO!).”
Trump also accused them of supporting Iran instead of Italy’s ally in the fight, the United States. He said that Meloni did not allow America to use Italian landing strips in the Iran War.

Trump further said, “She will not even let us use Italy’s landing strips or runways, which is a huge problem logistically, and this is when the US gives hundreds of billions of dollars every year for the security of Italy and other “so-called” NATO allies. After this, the US President claimed that Meloni “wants to be friends” to increase her numbers.
On Friday, Meloni responded to Trump’s claim, saying it was “completely fabricated.” Speaking to an Italian media outlet, Trump said he “didn’t need” to talk to Meloni and that he was “probably happy” that she talked to him.
Trump’s allegations on Iran policy and Italy’s role in NATO
Trump told an Italian TV channel in a short interview that Meloni wanted to take a picture with him “very badly.” He then said he didn’t take the picture, but he felt “sorry for them.”
Trump told the TV channel, “Maybe she’s happy that I talked to her. She asked me to take a photo with her. She wanted a photo with me very much. I wouldn’t have, but I felt bad for her.”
Meloni retorted, saying, “We don’t beg.”
Meloni rejected Trump’s comments and said he was “shocked” by them. In a post on X, the Italian Prime Minister said that this is not the first time that Trump has made derogatory remarks about his own colleagues.

He said, “Donald Trump’s statements are completely fabricated, I am really shocked. I don’t know why the President of the United States behaves like this with his own colleagues; after all, this is not the first time this has happened.” She said, “All I can say is that it is a shame that he does not show the same determination with the enemies of the West, with the enemies of the United States, with the leadership to which he is most helpful.”
