
Voting for municipal corporation elections in Punjab will be held tomorrow i.e. on 26th May. After this, counting of votes will take place on May 29 and results will be declared. tell you that Punjab Elections are being held for the seats of 8 Municipal Corporations, 76 Municipal Councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats. 7,555 candidates are in the fray in the elections. Among these, the highest number of candidates are 1801 from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.

At the second place, 1,550 candidates of Congress, 1,316 of Bharatiya Janata Party, 1,251 of Shiromani Akali Dal, 96 of Bahujan Samaj Party, 1528 independent candidates and 13 other candidates are contesting. These elections are considered important for every party. This is being considered as the semi-final of the 2027 assembly elections.

These elections of Batala, Pathankot, Kapurthala, SAS Nagar, Bathinda, Abohar, Moga and Barnala municipal corporations will also affect the assembly seats. A total of 36,72,932 votes will be cast in these elections of 8 Municipal Corporations, 76 Municipal Councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats, out of which 18,98,990 male voters and 17,73,716 female voters will cast their votes. With around 37 lakh voters voting, this vote bank will become politically important for all major parties.
The results will boost the morale of the parties
The results of municipal elections can have a significant impact on the morale of various parties ahead of the assembly elections. For the common citizen of the ruling party, its results may indicate that there is no anti-incumbency sentiment in the state. BJP will assess how much its political and organizational efforts have strengthened the party’s position in Punjab.
At the same time, Congress has a good opportunity to give a message to the public through these elections. Similarly, Shiromani Akali Dal will assess the situation among urban and non-Sikh voters through the election results.
