Sawan Food Rules: Sawan is the fifth month of the Hindi calendar. This month has been dedicated to Shiva devotion. In the month of Sawan, there is a huge crowd of devotees in Shiva temples across the country. Devotees worship their deity and perform Jalabhishek. The special importance of Jalabhishek in Sawan has been mentioned in the scriptures. This is the reason that in Sawan, Shiva devotees bring water from holy rivers in Kanwar and offer it to Mahadev. There is a religious belief that by performing Jalabhishek in this month, one gets special blessings of Mahadev.

According to Drik Panchang, this year the month of Saavan is starting from 30th July, which will end with Saavan Purnima on 28th August. Along with devotion to Shiva, special rules of living and eating and drinking are followed in Sawan. These rules are explained in detail in the scriptures.
