Sawan 2026: When is the month of Shiva devotion starting from 29th or 30th July? Clear confusion regarding date of Sawan

July 20, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Sawan Month 2026: Saavan is the month of Lord Shiva. In this fifth month of the Hindi calendar, special worship of Lord Shiva and Jalabhishek is done, because according to mythological belief, Saavan was the month when Lord Shiva wore the poison released from the churning of the ocean in his throat to save the world. Then the heat in his body started increasing, to calm down which the gods performed Jalabhishek on him. From that time the tradition of Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva started in Sawan.

There is a religious belief that Lord Shiva bestows special blessings on performing Jalabhishek in this month. This is the reason why there is a huge crowd of devotees in Shiva temples during Sawan. Devotees offer water to their idol during this time. It is believed that Mahadev becomes pleased just by offering water. However, this year people are a little confused about the date of Saavan, but according to Drik Panchang, this year the month of Saavan is starting from Wednesday, July 30, which will continue till the full moon of Saavan month on Friday, August 28.
