When will Sawan 2026 start?
According to the Panchang, the holy month of Saavan will start from Thursday, July 30, 2026 and will end on Friday, August 28, 2026. the whole month of savan Worship of Lord Shiva, Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek, fasting and Kanwar Yatra are considered to have special significance.
A rare super coincidence will occur on 17th August
This time, among the four Mondays of Sawan, the third Monday is considered to be the most important. On August 17, there will be a coincidence of Sawan Monday, Nag Panchami and Singh Sankranti. Usually Nag Panchami and Sawan Monday fall on different dates, but this time both falling on the same day is making this yoga special. From astrological point of view, this coincidence is considered very auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva, Nag Devta and Surya Dev. When is Nag Panchami 2026?
According to Drik Panchang, Panchami Tithi will start from 4:52 pm on 16 August 2026 and will continue till 5 pm on 17 August 2026. Based on Udaya Tithi, the festival of Nag Panchami will be celebrated on 17 August 2026. The auspicious time of puja on this day will be from 5.51 am to 8.29 am. That means devotees will get an auspicious time of about 2 hours 37 minutes for worship.
Why is the worship of Lord Shiva special on this day?
In Sanatan Dharma, snakes are considered to have a special relationship with Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva wears the snake Vasuki around his neck, hence the importance of Shiva worship increases even more on the day of Nag Panchami. It is believed that by offering water, milk, belpatra, datura and aak on Shivalinga on this day, Lord Shiva gets pleased quickly. It is said that the devotees who worship with devotion on this day are blessed by both Shiva and the serpent god.
Belief of getting relief from Rahu-Ketu defect
According to astrology, offering Belpatra to Lord Shiva on the day of Nag Panchami and worshiping the snake god as per the rituals is believed to reduce the effects of the defects associated with Rahu-Ketu. People who have problems related to Kaalsarp Dosh, Nag Dosh or Rahu-Ketu in their horoscope, they perform special worship and chant mantras on this day.
Do this auspicious work on this day
According to religious beliefs, on this day, take bath in the morning and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. Offer Belpatra, white flowers and Dhatura on Shivalinga. After this, worship the snake god and chant Om Namah Shivay mantra with devotion. Donating food, clothes or other essential things on this special day is also considered auspicious.
