Sawan 2026: How to worship Lord Shiva in Sawan? Know what to offer to Shivling and what not to offer

Sawan 2026: Saavan is included in the holy months of Hindu religion. This month has been dedicated to the worship and fasting of Lord Mahadev, the God of Gods. Special worship of Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan has been prescribed in religious scriptures. In Sawan, Shiva devotees offer water to Shivling in Kanwar. Jalabhishek is considered very important in Sawan. There is a religious belief that by performing Jalabhishek in this month, Lord Shiva becomes very happy. In this month, by performing puja and Jalabhishek as per rituals, Shiva fulfills all the wishes.

Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek of Shivalinga are performed throughout this month. There is special significance of offering things dear to Lord Shiva on Shivalinga in the month of Sawan. There are also some things which are prohibited to be offered on Shivalinga. According to Drik Panchang, this year Saavan is starting from 30th July, which will end with Saavan Purnima on 28th August. In such a situation, let us know what to offer to Shivling in the month of Sawan and what not?

Offer these things to Shivling in Saavan

  • Offer water to Shivling in the month of Sawan. Doing this is considered very sacred. By doing Jalabhishek on Shivalinga, God becomes pleased soon.
  • Lord Shiva loves Belpatra very much. Offer Bel Patra on Shivling every day in the month of Sawan. By doing this one gets the blessings of Lord Shiva.
  • After visiting the temple in Sawan and worshiping Lord Shiva, definitely offer milk to the Shivalinga.
  • Make sure to offer Bhang and Dhatura to Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan. It is considered very auspicious and sacred.
  • In Sawan, offer sandalwood paste and white flowers on Shivling.

Offering these things in Shiva puja is prohibited

According to religious beliefs, offering Tulsi leaves and Ketaki flowers on Shivalinga during the worship of Lord Shiva is not considered auspicious. In such a situation, do not forget to offer Tulsi and Ketaki flowers while worshiping Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan.
