Sawan 2026 Eclipses Impact: Solar eclipse on Sawan Amavasya, lunar eclipse on Rakshabandhan… know auspicious or inauspicious

June 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Solar Eclipse 2026: In astrology, the movement of planets and constellations is considered to have a deep impact on our lives. Whenever any major astronomical event occurs in the sky, its impact is seen not only on the common man but also on the politics of the country and the world. The month of Saavan of the year 2026 is going to witness some such big and sensitive changes. This time, two major eclipses are going to occur within just 16 days in Lord Shiva’s favorite month of Saavan.

While the biggest solar eclipse of the year will occur on Saavan Amavasya, there will be a shadow of lunar eclipse on the holy festival of Saavan Purnima i.e. Rakshabandhan. According to astrology, whenever two or more eclipses occur within a short interval of 15 or 16 days, it is considered to be extremely sensitive and a sign of major changes from a natural and spiritual point of view. Let us know the dates of these two eclipses and what effect they are going to have on the country and the world.

Solar eclipse will occur on Saavan Amavasya

According to astrological calculations, this eclipse occurring on August 12, 2026 will be a total solar eclipse. It will be visible mainly in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Amavasya Tithi itself is considered important for spiritual practice and remembrance of ancestors. In such a situation, due to the formation of solar eclipse on this day, its religious and astrological importance further increases. It is believed that during the solar eclipse, there are slight changes in the environment, hence worship, chanting mantras and meditating on God at this time is considered auspicious. However, it is advised to avoid eating food and starting auspicious works during the eclipse period.

Lunar eclipse will occur on Rakshabandhan

About 16 days after the solar eclipse, a partial lunar eclipse will occur on August 28, 2026, on the day of Sawan Purnima and Rakshabandhan. Which will not be visible in India. Purnima is considered to be related to the Moon and lunar eclipse also occurs on Purnima Tithi only. Rakshabandhan is the festival of love and trust between brothers and sisters, hence the news of eclipse on this day has increased the concern of people. According to astrologers, lunar eclipse can have an impact on a person’s emotions, mental state and decision making ability. However, its effect is not the same on every person, rather it can vary according to his birth chart and the position of the planets and stars.

Is it a bad sign to have two eclipses in the same month?

In astrology, when two eclipses occur within 15 days, it is not considered a normal event. Many scholars see it as a sign of major changes, changes in weather, natural activities and some important events at the country and world level. However, this does not mean that it will be completely inauspicious. According to astrology, eclipse is a symbol of change. Therefore, it should not be seen only with fear or negativity.

Religious importance of eclipse in Saavan

The month of Sawan is considered best for worshiping Lord Shiva. During this time devotees observe fast, perform Jalabhishek on Shivalinga and chant Shiva mantras. According to religious beliefs, chanting the mantras of Lord Shiva during the eclipse period is considered especially fruitful. It is said that chanting Om Namah Shivay mantra at the time of eclipse provides mental peace and protects from negative effects. Many devotees also take bath and do charity after the completion of the eclipse.

What to do and what not to do during eclipse?

According to religious beliefs, worship, chanting mantras and meditation during the eclipse period is considered auspicious. During the eclipse, it is advised to avoid eating food, buying new things or starting any auspicious work. After completion of the eclipse, taking bath and sprinkling Ganga water in the house is also considered auspicious.
