Famous actor and singer of Punjabi films Diljit Dosanjh is constantly in the headlines. Sometimes Amar Singh became bright and sometimes by organizing ‘Diljit Dosanjh Day’ in Los Angeles. These days he is again in the news regarding his two films. The content of both the films is viral on social media. There are two types of characters in front of the audience and two types of thoughts are also coming in front of them. There are those who like him sentimentally and there are those who dislike him by calling him one-sided. The special thing is that both these films have come at the same time with a slight gap and in these, Diljit has seen roles of two different temperaments. This is being called the two faces of Diljit.
Those who have seen Imtiaz Ali-directed Main Vyapar Aaung and Honey Trehan-directed Satluj will know that Diljeet dusk Has really given a heart winning performance in this. Everyone is impressed by his talent. Call it a coincidence that the stories of both the films touch the surface of reality. Both belong to Punjab. She is going to engrave the pain of history. The background of one is the tragedy of India-Pakistan partition, while the background of the other is the dangerous phase of terrorism in Punjab and the ruthless killings of innocents.
The character returning from London to Pakistan
The main objective of these films is to show the crisis of India, Pakistan, Punjab and humanitarianism. First of all, I will be back under the direction of Imtiaz Ali. Apart from Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah has also played an important role in this film. Naseeruddin Shah plays the role of elderly Ishar Singh Grewal who is bedridden and lost in the memories of his pre-partition girlfriend. The third generation in the house has grown up but the pain of memories remains within Ishar Singh.
In such a situation, Diljit Dosanjh, who became his grandson, returns from London and goes to the streets of Sargodha in Pakistan, where Ishar Singh spent his childhood, to please his grandfather. Sadly, Ishar Singh’s childhood sweetheart has now passed away. But when the grandson reaches that place, the grandfather feels very happy, he feels that he himself has reached there as a grandson. In the film, the young role of Naseeruddin Shah has been played by Vedang Raina and the role of his young girlfriend has been played by Sharvari.
Also depicted the massacre that took place during partition
In the film I will be back, the massacre that took place during the partition of India and Pakistan is also shown. After the announcement of partition, the massacre of thousands of people from both sides has been depicted in the film. And it has been told that Punjab has suffered the brunt of partition the most. There were many areas in Pakistan where the Muslim population was less, yet the Sikh or Hindu majority there had to flee and live as refugees in different areas of India. There I had to leave everything, my land and property.
Although this theme of the film is not new, the pain of partition has been shown in many other films including MS Sathyu’s Garam Hawa, but there is no consensus among people about the emotionality with which it was portrayed on the screen. While there are people on social media who like the feeling of love inherent in this film, some people also raise the question that the way the emotions of Indian filmmakers swell after seventy-five-eighty years, do Pakistani directors and producers also make films armed with these emotions?
No mention of Punjab’s terrorism in Satluj
Many questions are also raised on Diljit Dosanjh. In Main Wapar Aaunga, his character goes to Pakistan in search of love, but in Sutlej, the person responsible for terrorism in Punjab is not identified. The reality of police crime has been expressed in the story of Satluj. At the time when terrorism was at its peak in Punjab, thousands of innocents were brutally murdered. In this film, Diljit Dosanjh has played the role of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalda. Who had exposed the case of about twenty-five thousand unclaimed dead bodies. Later Jaswant Singh was also made missing and murdered.
In this regard, the film Sutlej is being praised a lot. The film has been made a masterpiece. There are hair-raising scenes. Heartbreaking facts come to light. Despite being removed from Zee5, the viral content on social media shows that the film has been watched by the maximum number of people. This film has been screened in many areas of Punjab by organizing special events. While I will return, the partition riots and the massacre of both the communities are depicted, while the encounter of Sikhs in Sutlej is shown.
Sutlej is a one-sided film in these matters
But the number of people who call Sutlej a one-sided film in some respects is also not less. The issue of killing of innocent Sikhs has been raised in the film but there is no mention of the people of non-Sikh community who became victims of terrorism. In the film, the actions of the police which had also controlled terrorism in Punjab have been brought to the fore. Even in Sutlej, neither terrorism has been shown nor Pakistan’s conspiracy behind terrorism has been discussed at all. Satluj, despite being an excellent film, is speechless on these points.
