
Diljit Dosanjh Satluj Movie Controversy: The Supreme Court has expressed strong displeasure over the violation of the country’s film certification rules. The Supreme Court said that screening or streaming of a film without a valid censor certificate is legally wrong. The Supreme Court made this comment during the hearing on the case of the film ‘Sutlej’, where questions were raised regarding the exhibition of the film without certification.
The Supreme Court has also talked in detail about the responsibilities of the state government, central government and OTT platform in this matter. The Supreme Court declared screening without certificate illegal. During the hearing, the court said that publicly displaying or streaming any film without the necessary certificate is a violation of the law.
State government should take appropriate steps- SC
The Supreme Court said that in such cases the primary responsibility for taking criminal action rests with the concerned state government. If any film is screened against the rules then the state government should take appropriate steps as per the law.
The Supreme Court’s comment is being considered important in terms of future release of films on digital platforms and legal accountability. In fact, the court clarified that the Central Government has the right to give instructions to remove a film being streamed without certification. The Supreme Court said that the Central Government has intervened in this matter and has also taken necessary steps to remove the film. From this it is clear that the central government also has an important role regarding the content available on digital platforms.
Action may be taken against G5
The Supreme Court also indicated that the role of the intermediary i.e. ZEE5, which streamed the film without certification, can also be investigated. The Supreme Court said that in such cases it is necessary to fix the responsibility of the concerned platform. Taking action against him is also being considered. This case has once again intensified the debate regarding the regulation of content available on OTT platforms and the film certification process.
