
The administration has started major action against alleged illegal encroachments on government land in Deoband tehsil area of Saharanpur. Cases have been registered in a total of 11 cases related to illegal madrasas, mosques and tombs said to be operating on government land and notices have been issued to the concerned parties. All concerned parties have been given time till July 13 to file their replies. If the response is not received within the stipulated time, the administration will take action as per rules.
According to Tehsildar Deoband, six cases related to illegal occupation of government land, damage to government property and use (misappropriation) of government land without valid permission or contrary to the prescribed purpose have been registered under Section 67 of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code. Apart from this, three cases are pending under the Public Premises (PP) Act. One case is pending in the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) court and one case is pending in the Tehsildar court.
Notice issued under section 67
The cases in which notices have been issued under Section 67 include the respective mutawallis and managers of Aqsa Mosque located in village Sohanchida, Madina Mosque located in village Pandauli, Madrasa Darussalam located in village Chhalauli, a madrasa located in Ambehata Shekha, a mosque located in village Paharpur and another mosque located in Ambehata Shekha.

According to the information, mosques and madrasas were built by occupying these government lands identified by the administration. After the complaint was received, the administration conducted an investigation. After which investigation revealed illegal occupation of government land. After this, notices have been issued to everyone. In the year 2012, an illegal mosque was built on about 0.0172 hectare land in village Sohanchida of Deoband tehsil. The current value of the land is Rs 11.52 lakh. Deoband Tehsildar has issued a notice to the Mutawalli Ahsan of the mosque. In the notice, he has also been asked to deposit a compensation of Rs 25 lakh.
At the same time, in village Pandauli, a permanent mosque has been constructed on about 0.0300 hectare land. At present the market value of this property has been estimated at around Rs 20.01 lakh. Similarly, in Chhalauli village, Pargana Nagal tehsil, an illegal permanent madrasa was built on 0.2900 hectares of government land. The revenue department has suffered a loss of about Rs 19.69 lakh due to this construction. Similarly, illegal constructions have been done at other places also.
Order to present side on 13th July
After occupying the government land and building a madrassa and mosque, the Deoband tehsildar has given time to everyone to present their side. All madrasa and mosque managers will have to appear before the Deoband Tehsildar by July 13 and give their answers.
