Sagar Manthan Secrets: Those things came out of Sagar Manthan, which even the gods refused to touch

July 6, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Sagar Manthan Secrets: Sagar Manthan has been described in detail in mythology. Sagar Manthan was done by both gods and demons together. The story of Sagar Manthan is said to be one of the most famous and mysterious events of Hinduism. This is not just the story of the conflict between gods and demons, but it contains many deep messages of life, patience, knowledge and spirituality. It is told in the Puranas that there came a time in the world when the powers of the demons increased and the power of the gods began to wane.

At that time the gods took refuge in Lord Vishnu. He advised the gods to churn the ocean so that nectar could be obtained. For churning the ocean, Mandarachal mountain was used as a churner and Nagraj Vasuki was used as a rope. Both gods and demons together started the churning of the ocean. Then more than one miraculous gem came out of the ocean, but do you know that three such things also emerged from the churning of the ocean, which even the gods refused to touch. Let us know in detail.

kalkoot poison

Kalakoot poison came out first in Sagar Manthan. This was no ordinary poison, but its heat and smoke had the power to burn all three worlds. Due to the effect of this poison, both gods and demons started running away to save their lives. No one had the courage to touch it. Then, to protect the world, Lord Shiva took the Kalkoot poison in his throat.

Varuni means liquor

During the churning, the gods clearly refused to touch one more thing. This thing was Varuni, which is called liquor or liquor. Varuni appeared in the form of a goddess Shakti, who promoted intoxication and vengeful tendencies. The gods were aware that consuming alcohol could destroy the intellect, so to maintain sacred conduct, the gods refused to touch Varuni.

goddess of poverty

Just before Goddess Lakshmi emerged from Sagar Manthan, her elder sister Jyestha emerged, who is also known as Alakshmi, Moodevi or the goddess of poverty. Jyestha was very scary. Wherever she went, she carried sorrow, disease and poverty. Due to his destructive nature the gods absolutely refused to keep him with them or touch him.
