S Jaishankar reached Mongolia, met President and Foreign Minister

Union External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar reached Mongolia on Monday in the first leg of his two-nation tour, where he met top Mongolian leaders in Ulaanbaatar. During this, cooperation between India and Mongolia on development projects, education, security, culture and multilateral forums was reviewed. Jaishankar also spoke to Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Foreign Minister Battetseg Batmunkh.

Emphasizing on further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Mongolia, both sides discussed new opportunities in sectors such as mining, clean energy and agro-processing. This tour is considered important towards further strengthening India’s relations with Asian countries.

Emphasis on strengthening strategic partnership

S Jaishankar reviewed the relations between the two countries during his meeting with Mongolian Foreign Minister Battseng Batmunkh in Ulaanbaatar. He said that the strength, warmth and possibilities of India-Mongolia strategic partnership were clearly visible in the talks. The two leaders discussed the progress of ongoing cooperation in development projects, capacity building, culture, education, security and multilateral fora. It was also agreed to explore new opportunities in areas like mining, clean energy and agro-processing.

Important meeting with President Ukhnaa also took place

Jaishankar also met Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and conveyed greetings on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that President Ukhna’s visit to India last year had given new impetus to the strategic partnership between the two countries. During the meeting, both the leaders discussed furthering cooperation in various fields. Jaishankar agreed with the President’s view that the strongest friendship is spiritual friendship.

Foreign Minister is on tour to Mongolia and South Korea

During his visit to Mongolia, the Foreign Minister also met Khamba Nomun Khan Geshe Lharampa de Javazandorj, head of the Gandan Monastery, the country’s largest Buddhist religious site. Jaishankar said that the blessings received are very important to strengthen the cultural relations and goodwill between the people of India and Mongolia. Before this, Mongolia’s State Secretary Munktushig Ilkhanajaev welcomed him. After the Mongolia visit, Jaishankar will leave for South Korea on Wednesday, where he will meet Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and deliver the keynote address at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity.
