Even after the peace agreement between America and Iran, the situation in the Gulf region remains peaceful. But the war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for more than 4 years. Russia is launching rapid attacks on Ukraine. Now, just a day before the NATO summit, Russia attacked the capital Kiev overnight with missiles and drones, in which many people are reported killed. A large number of people have also been injured.
Officials said that Russia fired several ballistic missiles and drones targeting the capital Kiev on Monday night, due to which at least 8 people died. The attack took place hours after Ukrainian President Zelensky warned that another large-scale attack was imminent.
Attack on residential areas
After the attack, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said rescue teams were evacuating residents from buildings damaged by the overnight bombing. Officials said seven people were killed in Kiev, one person was killed in Bucha district, northwest of the capital, while at least 34 people were injured in Kiev and surrounding areas.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev region’s military administration, said missiles and drones targeted apartment blocks and other residential buildings on Monday. Black smoke is rising from a fire in an industrial plant near the water’s edge.
People took shelter in the metro after the attack
“The enemy is attacking with ballistic missiles. The attack caused a partial collapse of a residential building in the Podilsky district. Several multi-storey buildings were damaged in the Darnitsia district and many people are feared trapped under the debris,” Timur Tkachenko, head of Kiev’s City Military Administration, said in a post on Telegram.
He said, “These are residential buildings. This is a place where people rest, people sleep and live their normal lives.”
Mayor Klitschko said that air defense systems are working and people have been appealed to stay in shelters. In this attack that continued till Monday morning, along with ballistic and cruise missiles, drones were also used. The sounds of explosions echoed across the city and civilians kept taking shelter in metro stations.
Zelensky-Trump meeting in Ankara!
US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky are expected to discuss the war during the NATO summit to be held in the Turkish capital Ankara. This summit is starting tomorrow Tuesday.
This attack was carried out when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of another major Russian attack on the city just hours earlier. The attack on Monday comes days after at least 31 people were killed in a joint Russian attack in Kiev last week.
In a post on Telegram late Sunday, President Zelensky reiterated his call for Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly by providing more Patriot missiles. He said that not filling their gap gives Russia the courage to prolong its four-year-old war.
