Amid the ongoing debate across the country regarding E20 petrol, Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will visit petrol pumps and service centers among the public. He will take opinion from the public on this 20 percent ethanol petrol. Kejriwal said on Wednesday that yesterday I had said that I will write a letter to all the vehicle manufacturers in the country asking whether E20 fuel can be used in their old vehicles? Is there harm or not?
Kejriwal said that he has written separate letters to three companies Maruti, Toyota and Hero and separately to 26 others. These three had said in the government press conference that there is no loss, only 3-4 percent mileage is lost, then they were asked that if a customer’s mileage decreases by 10-15 percent or the engine gets damaged, will they cover it? The remaining 26 vehicle manufacturing companies have been asked whether there is any loss of mileage or engine loss due to E-20 petrol in their vehicles, if this happens then who will compensate them?
Why is there an uproar over E20 petrol?
The controversy over E20 fuel is due to the fact that most of the vehicles manufactured before 2023 are made for E10. Many people are complaining that after filling E20 the mileage of the vehicle has reduced by 2-6%. Meaning, one liter of petrol is not getting the same amount of run as before. Due to excess ethanol in E20, rubber parts can get damaged. This has been said in a report of ARAI.
However, this report has not been made public yet. On the other hand, the government says that till now no concrete evidence has been found of any major defect in any vehicle. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that many false rumors are being spread regarding E20 petrol. Not a single car has faced any problem due to ethanol mixed fuel.
