Some unknown assailants opened fire indiscriminately in broad daylight on Simranjeet Singh, a famous Right to Information (RTI) activist from Jalandhar, Punjab. This deadly attack took place very near the Law Gate of Lovely Professional University (LPU), which has created panic in the entire area. After committing the crime the attackers fled from the spot. Seriously injured Simranjeet Singh was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where his condition remains very critical.

A police officer was murdered
Gunmen riding a bike shot dead a police officer near Majitha town in Amritsar district in the early hours of Sunday last. At that time the officers were going to start their duty. ASI Joga Singh is the third policeman to be killed in Punjab. Earlier on February 22, an officer and a constable were shot dead inside a police post located just one kilometer away from the Pakistan border in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
Amritsar SSP (Rural) Suhail Kasim Mir said that Joga was posted in Amritsar Police Commissionerate. The police have not yet been able to identify his killers nor find out the motive behind the murder. Because his family says that he had no enemies and had never received any threats. The ASI was going from Batala towards Amritsar (40 km) on his scooter when the attackers stopped him on the outskirts of Majitha. This incident happened right in the middle of this 40 kilometer journey on Fatehgarh Churian-Majitha road.
Used to go to Amritsar for duty
Joga Singh’s cousin, Harcharan Singh later reached the spot and told the media that the ASI usually went to Amritsar for duty in his car. But, on Sunday morning, he got a punctured tyre, so he decided to go to work on a scooter. During this time he was attacked. Harcharan said that Joga worked in Amritsar Traffic Police and he never received any threat. He lived with his wife, while his two children are settled in Canada. According to the family, they had no information.
