The US Defense Department Pentagon has told lawmakers that it needs an additional amount of about $ 80 billion (Rs 7.56 lakh crore) to meet the Iran war and other important government expenses. This information has been given in a report of Wall Street Journal. According to the report, US Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Fineberg said this in a phone conversation with lawmakers this week.
The report says that in the coming days the White House may present a new additional budget (supplemental funding request) to Congress. In this, funds will be sought not only for the Pentagon, but also for agricultural assistance, disaster relief and other non-defense needs.
How much money did America spend on Iran war?
There has been a long-running discussion in America about the cost of the Iran war. In April, a Pentagon official said officially for the first time that about $25 billion has been spent so far on the Iran war. But the question of what will be the total cost of the war still remains a topic of discussion in the American Parliament and political circles.
President Donald Trump, along with Israel, started a military campaign against Iran on February 28. After this, the administration had initially sought funding of $200 billion for additional expenses. However, many Congress MPs had opposed giving such a huge amount, due to which there was a lot of debate regarding this proposal.
Iran refuses to reveal full cost of war
During a hearing of the Budget Committee of the US House of Representatives in April, White House Budget Director Russell Vought was asked about the total cost of the war. He had said that he did not have any accurate estimate. At that time he was defending the Trump administration’s $1.5 trillion annual defense budget.
This new budget proposal also reflects the Republican Party’s priorities ahead of the midterm elections in November. But the concern of the American people is continuously increasing regarding rising inflation, high energy prices and increasing expenditure on Iran war.
