Rohit Sharma: There is no pressure… Coach’s big statement on Rohit Sharma amid speculations of retirement

July 17, 2026 by Uma Shankar

India Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak on Rohit Sharma: Various speculations are being made in the media regarding the poor form of veteran opener Rohit Sharma and his ODI future in the ongoing ODI series between India and England. In the second ODI played in Cardiff, Rohit Sharma played a very slow innings of 26 runs in 47 balls, after which India had to face defeat in this match by 4 wickets. Meanwhile, there are also reports that the selectors do not want to consider Rohit Sharma’s name further in preparation for the 2027 World Cup. Amidst all these speculations, Indian team’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has come out in support of the senior batsman and has made it clear that there is no pressure of any kind on Rohit.

Coach’s big statement on Rohit Sharma

In the press conference after the second ODI, when Sitanshu Kotak was asked a question about Rohit Sharma’s future and the pressure on him, he said, ‘I don’t think a big player like Rohit Sharma can ever feel pressure. He is too big and a great player to take this kind of pressure. Yes, it is true that he has not been able to score runs in the last two innings, but I don’t think it makes any difference. Even today it seemed as if he would play a big innings, but this is common in cricket.

Different innings will be seen at Lord’s

Kotak completely denied that Rohit Sharma is struggling to score runs and expressed hope that Rohit will be seen in a different style in the last match to be held at Lord’s on Sunday. The batting coach said, ‘Many times on a particular day, batsmen do not get the momentum they are looking for. You can get to see a completely different innings of Rohit Sharma at Lord’s. I will not use the word struggle for them. The Cardiff pitch had uneven bounce, making it difficult for him to play the shots he usually plays in the air. Rohit could not get the balls in his slot.

Questions are being raised on Rohit Sharma’s recent form.

Rohit Sharma’s performance in the current year has not been anything special. In eight ODI matches this year, he has scored only one half-century and his average is 30.12. During this period he could score only 241 runs. Even in the ODI series played against Afghanistan before England, he could not do anything special. Due to which clouds of crisis seem to be looming over his ODI career.
