Rekha government’s big step for Yamuna revitalization, projects worth Rs 1000 crore approved

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is working in mission mode for the revival of Yamuna river and cleaning of Najafgarh drain. In this sequence, the Chief Minister has approved various ambitious projects worth more than Rs 1,000 crore to strengthen Delhi water management, sewage treatment and water supply.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Has said that the priority of the government is to provide better facilities to every citizen of the capital and to make Delhi a clean, green and water-safe capital.

Gift to Najafgarh region

The Chief Minister said that approval has been given to set up 12 new Decentralized Sewage Treatment Plants (DSTP) in Najafgarh area. The total capacity of these plants, to be built at a cost of about Rs 860 crore, will be 46.5 MGD and will be developed under the AMRUT scheme of the Central Government. Among these, DSTP of 17 MGD capacity will be built in Mitraon.

Apart from this, 4 DSTPs will be established in Kair, Kanganheri, Kakrola and Dichaun Kalan, 3 in Ghalibpur, Sarangpur and Shikarpur and 4 in Hasanpur, Jafarpur, Kazipur and Kheda Dabar. More than 121 unauthorized colonies, 35 villages and approximately seven lakh people will benefit from these projects. Also, untreated sewage will be prevented from flowing into Najafgarh drain, which will promote the cleanliness of Yamuna and environmental protection.

Keshopur STP will be rejuvenated

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the first phase of Keshopur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will be upgraded and capacity expanded. Under this, the capacity of the plant will be increased from 12 MGD to 18 MGD.

Through this project costing about Rs 122 crore, the quality of treated water will be made as per the latest standards. He said that the project will also include operation and maintenance (O&M) arrangements for 11 years. This will promote the use of recycled water and strengthen water conservation efforts.

Delhi government serious about improving ground water level

The Chief Minister said that to improve the groundwater level and strengthen water security, the government has decided to promote rain water harvesting. Now Delhi Jal Board will work on construction of new rain water harvesting structures and rehabilitation of old structures on behalf of various departments. To make this initiative effective, four ground water experts and ten rain water harvesting social mobilizers will also be appointed.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the major trunk sewer line from Amichand Chowk to Old Kalyanpuri Sewage Pumping Station in Trilokpuri Assembly constituency will be rehabilitated at a cost of about Rs 57 crore. This line is more than 40 years old and has faced subsidence and technical problems several times in the last few years.

With the completion of the new project, the sewerage system of the area will become more safe, reliable and effective. Apart from this, a new underground reservoir (UGR) and booster pumping station with 0.72 MGD capacity will be established in Rohtas Nagar of Shahdara assembly constituency. This project costing approximately Rs 27 crore will strengthen the local water supply system.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the priority of the Delhi government is that every resource available in the capital should be used for the facilities and development of the public. He expressed confidence that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi will set an excellent example for the country in the field of water management, sewage treatment, rain water harvesting and Yamuna revitalization.

Congratulating the officers, engineers, field staff and all public representatives of Delhi Jal Board for these important projects and decisions, he said that these initiatives will directly benefit lakhs of citizens and will give new strength to the resolve to make Delhi a clean, green and water-secure capital.
