In an interview given to PTI, Rekha told that, when the song ‘Namak Ishq Ka’ was being made, Vishal Bhardwaj was very busy in preparing and composing the songs of the film. He would often come to him after writing one or two lines and ask how he felt about it and whether it should be taken forward. Till that time, Rekha mostly sang painful, emotional and soft songs, because she felt that she was made for such songs.
He told that Vishal Bhardwaj often made him sing the songs composed by him so that he could get a different perspective on the song. He also asked Rekha to try singing for ‘Namak Ishq Ka’. As soon as Rekha sang the song, some high notes came automatically. The interesting thing was that these high notes were not a part of the song at that time, but Vishal liked it so much that he immediately recorded it on his Motorola flip phone. He told Rekha, “Let me record it, otherwise you will forget and I will also forget.” Later this style became the special identity of the song.
