After the case of alleged discrimination against Marathi speakers came to light in Maharashtra, the discussion has intensified in political and social circles. In Mira-Bhayander area, a Marathi woman has been accused of being refused a house on rent only on the basis of her language and identity. It is being told that Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has intervened in this matter and given a strict warning to the concerned landlord.

According to the information, Raveena Shinde, who runs a business named Shinde Gudacha Tea and Breakfast Centre, was allegedly refused while looking for a house on rent in Bhayander area on the grounds that she was a Marathi. After this incident came to light, anger was expressed at the local level. It was alleged that non-Marathi speaking people are doing injustice to Marathi speaking people in Maharashtra.

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik himself reached Raveena Shinde’s stall and met her and took complete information. He assured the Shinde family that injustice will not be allowed to happen to them and the government is fully committed to the honor of Marathi society.

Discrimination against Marathis will not be tolerated

Minister Sarnaik said that all the people living in Maharashtra should respect the language, culture and Marathi society here. He said in a warning tone that if anyone tried to discriminate against Marathi people, it would not be tolerated. Sarnaik said, living in Maharashtra, we will have to respect the Marathi people, otherwise we will not be allowed to lay even a single brick.
